2. Consultation FAQs

When and where did the consultation take place?

Extensive consultations took place in 2010 and 2011 to help canvas public opinion about the site and to inform the process that led to the production of the Masterplan, designed by Sir Terry Farrell’s team. These consultations included exhibitions, public presentations and a website, with opportunities to respond both online and in person via questionnaires. The presentations are archived here. Folkestone Harbour Company engaged an independent research unit from Canterbury Christ Church Univesrity to conduct these consultations, including staffing the exhibitions, designing the questionnaires and analysing the responses, helping to ensure objectivity and transparency.

What was the outcome?

There has been and remains widespread interest in the plans for Folkestone Seafront, both in the local era and further afield. A significant majority of those who took part in the consultations indicated their support for the approach that has been taken and that is reflected in the planning documents, and there has been broad support for the sensitive approach taken in addressing the heritage of the site, particularly the harbour area. An analysis of the response to the consultation can be viewed here.

Will there be a further chance to contribute to the consultation procedure?

During each of the detailed development and planning phases there will be further opportunities for people to comment on proposals as they are brought forward.
