Sea sports for the Seafront and new sporting calendar
Would you like to see new water sports facilities in Folkestone? Do you have an interest or expertise in a particular type of water sport? Do you have ideas for how to improve water sports in Folkestone?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then we would love to hear from you.
Proposals to improve Folkestone Seafront will be put forward for a new and final round of public consultation later this year, with one of the priorities being water and sea sports. So we invite anyone with ideas, expertise or just an interest in these areas to help us.
Response to last summer’s consultation demonstrated that there was a clear appetite to see provision for beach and water sports included in the plans, and we want to be sure that as many different points of view and interests are incorporated into our planning. The development of the seafront offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to include some really exciting ideas that could establish Folkestone as a first class centre for water and beach sports, but to realise this we shall need to work closely with motivated individuals and enthusiastic sports clubs.

New attraction makes a splash in Harbour Square
On Saturday 25th June the Folkestone Harbour Fountain was switched on.
Folkestone Harbour Company spokesman Trevor Minter said, “We are confident that our plans will make a significant improvement to the harbour environment by introducing an interactive fountain which local residents and visitors will be able to enjoy, and where children can play. We are in the process of consulting local
people about our plans and work should be completed by the summer.”
The new feature forms part of a general improvement programme that is taking place at Folkestone Harbour, including the construction of the two new restaurants, all of which is designed to make the area more attractive to local people and visitors.
